Art with Miss Kat
Welcome Letter

Hello North Hero families!
My name is Miss Kat, and am pleased to announce that I am the new art teacher for the Champlain Islands Unified Union School District (North Hero Elementary School and Grand Isle Elementary School). During the hybrid learning period, I will be working in person at Grand Isle on Mondays and Tuesday, and then in person at North Hero on Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays I will be alternating between each school as well as working virtually, however you can always reach me at kdevlin@gisu.org and I will respond as quickly as possible. I am also available during my office hours on Thursdays and Friday from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm.
This year provides the unique opportunity to examine art from a new mindset. Though classes will look different from years past, I plan to continue teaching the craft of traditional art mediums while adapting lessons to meet virtual artistic needs. I will be visiting students’ classrooms once every other week to deliver art lessons while utilizing Google Classroom to teach remotely for those weeks we cannot meet in person. I plan to ensure that all students, both in-person and remote, receive the necessary supplies to complete the truly wonderful artwork that they are all capable of creating!
To conclude, as a new teacher in this community, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I have spent the majority of my life living in the mountains of Vermont with a short period living in New Hampshire during my undergraduate BFA studies. During the summers I have worked at a myriad of camps, theatre, gymnastics, dance, circus, cheerleading, YMCA, as well as South Hero’s Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. My passions include art (painting is my specialty), reading (mainly fantasy/fiction), baking (especially during pandemics), and spending time exploring the local communities.
I look forward to the start of the 2020-2021 school year and am eager to meet you all as we begin the adventures that accompany the process of creativity!
